    Thanks for this great video tip! I’m just discovering your site. I’m an adult who is relearning how to have that connection to my body that you talk about, and I want to help my kids learn/keep it (the 15 month old definitely still has it). My question is this: both of my kids have a lot of food sensitivities which we have gradually uncovered with elimination diets since they were babies with uncomfortable symptoms. Now we avoid those foods and have been working on gut healing and nutrient dense foods. How can we create the kind of mindset that you talk about around what makes their bodies feel good and what doesn’t when there are so many foods they can’t eat and don’t remember the pain those foods caused? I tend to try to think of wanting to instill an abundance mindset in them: ‘look at all this amazing, healthy food you can eat” versus, ‘you can’t have that or that or that because it will make you feel sick or it has junk ingredients.’ I don’t want them to feel deprived and to know what we, their parents, already know- some foods are not good for their bodies- but I am unsure how to help them achieve that. Does that make sense? 🙂

      Hi Erin! Thank you for your great question. You are on the right track by affirming the abundance of yummy and healthy foods they can eat! One approach is to simply tell them that their bodies gave the message that food X wasn’t a good match for them. No drama or fear but a gentle explanation that different bodies do well with different diets. Affirm that as they get older they will intuitively and directly know what works for them. One thing I say to my kids is “People are as different on the inside as the outside.” and that one size does not fit all. As they grow you can give more information about how unhealthy foods can taste good but that does not mean they have nutritional value. Any child with special needs- whether it’s a diet or a physical issue- is best supported by focusing on what they can do vs what they cannot (and you are already doing this). In addition, make sure to lead by example and share with them the foods you avoid because they are not right for you. I hope this helps and keep up the good work Revolutionary, Evolutionary mom!
